I see that St Fintan O’Toole ……arguably the most saintly person to come out of Dublin since St Laurence O’Toole (possibly a relation)…..thinks that the support for Sean Quinn is “misplaced”. Alas St Fintan O’Toole rarely speaks for the Plain People of Ireland……indeed he does not think much of them at all.
Yet St Fintan O’Toole enjoys a certain reputation as a guru. Mostly this is a view held by the Overclass of Dublin journalists and their hibernophobic allies in the North. I suspect the peerless St Fintan might be quoted on a hibernophobic website….the house magazine being Slugger O’Toole (no relation).
Journalism is opinion without responsibility Fintan and others could have put themselves before the Irish people in any of the recent Irish elections. They choose not to do so. Is Fintan afraid of a real debate? Yes I say he is.
“Power without responsibility – the prerogative of the harlot throughout the ages” Kipling I think.
Lol, great literary references Gentlemen, may I add one?
“The difference between literature and journalism is that journalism is unreadable and literature is not read”
Oscar Wilde
Any quote that shows Journalism in a bad light meets with my approval. 🙂
